How Fokuno works

Fokuno does three things: it plans your tasks into your calendar, pulls you into the block at the right time and helps you stay there. Here is each of them in more detail.

The path of a task

Most planners stop once the block is in the calendar. With Fokuno, that is where the important part begins. This is how a task runs through the app:

  1. Write it down. One line is enough: “Biology summary 45 min by Thursday”. Duration and deadline can go in.
  2. Plan. Fokuno looks for free time in your Google Calendar and puts a block there. The most urgent comes first, and what you move by hand stays where you put it. The rules of the planner
  3. Start. The block begins with a question: what is your first step? Only then does the timer run. Focus block and ritual
  4. Stay on track. If you open a distracting site during the block, Fokuno steps in briefly. Distractions
  5. Close the day. In the evening, two minutes: what went well, what slowed you down, what you start with tomorrow.

What is behind it

Fokuno rests on a simple observation: people who decide beforehand when and where they will do something follow through much more often. A review of 94 studies finds an effect size of d = 0.65 (Gollwitzer & Sheeran, 2006). A to-do list doesn’t fix that, a block in your calendar does. The rest of the app makes sure the block actually begins.

Where there is no solid number, there is none here either. Fokuno doesn’t promise you will get twice as much done. It takes away decisions that would otherwise cost you a run-up.

Who Fokuno is built for

First of all for school and university students: the defaults fit an afternoon after school, and studying for exams is spread over several days. If you work during the day, you change the times. Fokuno for school and university

And your data?

  • Fokuno reads your calendar to find free time and only writes its own blocks.
  • Your data lives on your device and on servers in Zurich.
  • Nothing is sold, used for advertising or used to train AI models.
  • Exporting your data and deleting your account work directly in the app.
